NY ULSTER — Ulster Police Matters Meeting addresses budget concerns and governance shift following Supervisor resignation. Deputy Supervisor Van Kleeck and Police Chief Berardi addressed a Daily Freeman article dated October 28 reporting proposed police budget cuts, with Berardi stating he had never agreed to any reductions. The Police Department operates with 26 full-time members, including 2 on light duty, 1 in the police academy, and 1 newly hired November 2.
The 2026 budget fully funds an unfilled detective position the council confirmed should be filled. Supervisor Quigley's resignation letter prompted Van Kleeck to appoint himself Deputy Supervisor, rescinding the prior appointment of Councilwoman Hayner.
